Fees

Elucidate Psychology is a private billing clinic and do not offer bulk-billing services. Payment is required on the day of the consultation and can be made by cash, credit or eftpos.

We believe exceptional psychological care should be accessible and strive to keep our fees as low as possible. Our fees are well below the Australian Psychological Society (APS) recommended fee of $311 for a standard session (50 to 60 mins).

      FAQ

      Frequently Asked Questions

      Payment Details and Options

For therapy sessions and initial consultations, full payment is required at the end of the appointment. We accept EFTPOS, credit card or debit card.

For assessments, we do not require a deposit or pre-payment. The fee is split up, with 50% due at the first testing session and the remaining 50% due at the feedback session. Full payment is required before the report is released.

Do we see patients with NDIS funding?

We accept plan-managed and self-managed NDIS referrals (but not NDIA-managed referrals). There may be a gap fee depending on the type of service and clinician. Please contact us for further information.

      Private Health Insurance

You may be eligible for a rebate from your private health insurance provider. Please check with your provider to see whether psychological services are covered in your plan.

      Cheaper Assessment Options

As a private-billing clinic, we understand the cost of our services is prohibitive to many individuals. Post-graduate students at the following university clinics offer assessments at a reduced rate: University of MelbourneMonash University

      Do we offer telehealth services?

We conduct therapy sessions both in-person and via telehealth (video conferencing). Some of our clinicians prefer to have in-person appointments for the first few sessions before moving to telehealth, particularly when working with children and young adults.

The testing component of our neuropsychological assessments must be conducted in-person, while initial consultations and feedback sessions can be done in-person or via telehealth.

WPATH assessments can be done either in-person or via telehealth.

      Assessments for multiple issues

Neuropsychological assessments can investigate multiple issues at once, such as Autism, ADHD and learning issues. All Autism assessments also assess for ADHD as a differential diagnosis/potential co-morbid condition. If investigating both ADHD and learning issues, the complex fee applies (the higher rate is needed to cover both additional time and test materials involved).

Assessing ADHD and Autism in women, girls and AFAB

Our clinical neuropsychologists are experienced in the assessment of neurodevelopmental conditions in all genders, including girls, women, individuals assigned female at birth, trans and gender-diverse individuals.

      Medicare Rebates

      GP Mental Health Care Plan

Only patients with a valid GP Mental Health Treatment Plan/Mental Health Care Plan are eligible for a rebate for therapy sessions (maximum of 10 sessions per calendar year). Unfortunately, a GP MHCP cannot be used for initial consultations or testing sessions for neuropsychological assessments. Individuals with a valid GP MHCP may be eligible for a rebate for the feedback session.

      Group Therapy Sessions

Medicare benefits are available for a patient to access up to 10 group therapy sessions per calendar year. Group therapy can be delivered via telehealth in certain circumstances. To be eligible to attend a group therapy session via telehealth the patient must be located within Modified Monash Model area 4-7 and be at least 15 kilometres by road from the clinician delivering the session. Further information is outlined here.

      EPC Plan/Chronic Disease Management

An Enhanced Primary Care Plan/Chronic Disease Management referral is for adults or children who have a chronic condition and complex care needs.  A chronic medical condition is one that has been (or is likely to be) present for six months or longer.  Patients have complex care needs if they need ongoing care from a multidisciplinary team consisting of their GP and at least two (2) other health care providers (e.g., psychologist and another health provider). An EPC Plan consists of a total of five (5) services per patient each calendar year. To be eligible, patients must have a GP Management Plan (GPMP) item 229 or 721 and Team Care Arrangements (TCAs) item 230 or 723. This type of referral can be used for both therapy and neuropsychological assessment services. Further information can be found here and here. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions regarding this type of referral.

      Complex Neurodevelopmental Disorders

Medicare provides rebates for the assessment and treatment of Complex Neurodevelopmental disorders and other eligible disabilities (link to the list). Individuals under the age of 25 years may be eligible for a rebate of $96.65 for four (4) assessment services and a maximum of eight (8) assessment services in total per lifetime after a review and agreement from the referring eligible medical practitioner.  To be eligible, a medical practitioner (GP) needs to provide a referral to a paediatrician or psychiatrist. The consulting paediatrician or psychiatrist can then refer an individual to a psychologist for assessment services. If they already have a current treating paediatrician or a psychiatrist, they can refer them directly to a psychologist to assist in the diagnosis of a suspected complex neurodevelopmental disorder or eligible disability. Please contact us if you would like further information or have any queries.

      Medicare Safety Net Threshold

Individuals who reach the Medicare Safety Net threshold will be eligible for significantly higher Medicare rebates.

Eating Disorder Treatment and Management Plan (EDP)

Under an Eating Disorder Treatment and Management Plan (EDP),  individuals can access a range of services for their eating disorder. This includes up to 40 psychological sessions (individual and/or group sessions) and up to 20 sessions with a dietician. The EDP is prepared by their treating GP who reviews the plan after 10 psychological sessions and again at 20 sessions. A psychiatrist then reviews the EDP and recommends an additional 10 sessions (if necessary). The treating GP can then review the patient and recommend up to 10 sessions (up to 40 sessions in total over a 12-month period).

      Cancellation & Non-attendance Fees

      Therapy Appointments

We require 48 business hours’ notice if you need to reschedule or cancel an appointment. This provides us with adequate time to offer the appointment to those on our waitlists and ensures appointments can be given to others in need of assistance. If you cancel or reschedule with less than 48 business hours’ notice, a fee equal to half of the cost of the session may apply. For less than 24 business hours’ notice, a full fee equal to the cost of the session may apply. Non-attendances prevent other patients from attending the appointment and will incur the full session fee.

      Extenuating Circumstances

Cancellation fees may be waived when there are extenuating circumstances or an emergency has occurred. This is at the discretion of our administration team who manage these fees (not individual psychologists) and will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. An emergency is considered an extenuating circumstance outside of your control,  which gives you no choice but to cancel the appointment.

      Payment of fees

Late cancellation and non-attendance fees must be paid before another session can be booked, meaning that any future scheduled appointments may be cancelled until the invoice is paid. Please note that cancellation fees are not covered by Medicare or private health insurance.

      Neuropsychological Assessments

Given the high demand for assessments, we require additional notice should you wish to cancel, postpone or reschedule an assessment appointment. This ensures our support team has adequate time to offer the appointment to others on our waitlist. Our sessions are booked well in advance to allow patients time to organise their schedules and obtain time off work, if required (medical certificates are available).  For neuropsychological testing sessions, failure to provide adequate notice makes it difficult to fill these appointments and means no replacement service can be billed for this time (typically in excess of three hours).

Late notice will incur a cancellation fee as follows:

      • Initial Consultations – If you cancel, postpone or reschedule an initial consultation with less than seven business days’ notice, a cancellation fee equal to the full session fee will apply.
      • Neuropsychological testing sessions – If you cancel, postpone or reschedule a neuropsychological testing session with less than two weeks’ notice (fourteen calendar days), a cancellation fee equal to half of the cost of the session will apply. If less than seven days’ notice is provided, a cancellation fee equal to the full session fee will apply.
      • Feedback sessions – If you cancel, postpone or reschedule a feedback session with less than seven business days’ notice, a cancellation fee equal to the full session fee will apply.
