Assessments
We offer neuropsychological assessments for children (aged 6 and above), adolescents and adults. Assessments can cover a broad range of behavioural, educational, cognitive, and social issues.
Neuropsychologists are psychologists who have undergone postgraduate study specialising in the assessment and treatment of neurocognitive conditions. They have advanced skills in the administration and interpretation of an extensive range of neuropsychological tests.
Neuropsychologists conduct performance-based assessments to evaluate the cognitive, behavioural, and emotional effects of brain related conditions. They are more in-depth than standard psychological assessments (e.g., a lengthier process to complete) and assess a wider range of cognitive skills (e.g., attention, learning, memory and executive functioning). These assessments can identify underlying issues which psychological assessments cannot detect, and complex cases are often referred to neuropsychologists for additional investigation.

Our Process
Psychologists are ethically obligated to ensure patients are not subjected to undue testing and we only conduct assessments if they are necessary. As such, an initial consultation with preliminary screening is undertaken to ensure a full assessment is warranted. At the end of the initial consultation, the neuropsychologist will advise whether they recommend proceeding with the assessment. If not, they will provide recommendations to assist the patient with their presenting concerns.
For testing sessions, patients are required to attend in person at our clinic based in Richmond. These sessions are one-on-one with just the patient. Anyone else who attends the appointment is welcome to sit in the waiting room. Patients are asked to abstain from any mind-altering substances beforehand (a cup of coffee is fine). Patients will also need to bring their reading glasses. Corroborative information will be sought from family, spouse, friends, teachers and treating health professionals if appropriate.
The results from the assessment will be provided in the feedback session. Initial consultations and feedback sessions can be done either in person or via telehealth.
ADHD Assessments
Although our psychologists are trained and qualified to diagnose ADHD, they do not prescribe medication. We recommend individuals who are interested in trialling ADHD medication see a psychiatrist or paediatrician for an assessment (rather than a neuropsychologist).
Patients who are diagnosed with ADHD (and interested in trailing medication) are referred to a psychiatrist or paediatrician for a medication review. They will be provided with a copy of the report and the psychologist will liaise with the psychiatrist/paediatrician if they require any further information.
